The Law Offices of Richard C. McConathy | Grayson County

In March of 1846, Grayson County was marked off from Fannin County, with the county seat being called Sherman. The county was named after Republic of Texas attorney general Peter Wagener Grayson and the county seat was named after General Sidney Sherman. The naming of each was seen as a compromise between supporters of the pro-Houston Democrat Grayson and the anti-Houston Whig Sherman.

The county is included in the Sherman–Denison metropolitan area that is also a component of Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. There are a multitude of major highways in the county, including U.S. Route 69, U.S. Route 75, U.S. Route 82, U.S. Route 377, Texas State Highway 5, Texas State Highway 11, Texas State Highway 56, Texas State Highway 91, and Texas State Highway 289.
